The poor control of Internet at home can cause several problems, especially among young people: children and teenagers. Although Internet has become an invaluable tool for studying, it also has open a new door to hazard games and bets, but a door without filters nor padlocks that can send young people right to compulsive gambling.
Not in vain at Gamblers Anonymous from Albacete (Spain) has arrived a young man who recognizes being obsessed with virtual casinos. He is one of the firsts affected, but must be considered a warning light for this association, as they feel disorientated and not enough informed about the consequences that could carry out Internet compulsive gambling.
“This is a new problem, which has not been studied yet; it’s a boom that has taken us by surprise”, says a spokesperson from Gamblers Anonymous, who also recognizes that “we don’t know how to deal with this problem, because we always have focused on slots or bingo players, but Internet gambling is something new and we don’t count with enough information”.
For the Gamblers Anonymous Association from Albacete, the problem of children and teenagers “hooked” by video and Internet games could be a consequence of lacking attention and control from parents and family. This is why they have publicly called parents and families to be aware of this problem, as it could turn their children into compulsive gamblers.
